Introduction

Dear Website Visitor, this site is about a model railway layout ( in progress ) : Shedcombe-upon-Frome TMD.

What does Shedcombe-upon-Frome TMD stand for, where does it come from ? Shed is a nickname for the GM-EMD Class 66, a combe is small valley, upon is as much as "next to", Frome is a river ( and also a town ) in Somerset ( UK ) while TMD stands for Traction Maintenance Depot, obviously a facility for maintenance on railway locomotives.

The layout is based in Lelystad, Netherlands and pictures a fictitious idea, situated in East-Somerset ( UK ). Although maybe strange for a Europe Mainland modeller ( not so for UK modellers ), but it's in scale OO ( 1:76.2 ) instead of HO ( 1:87 ). Meaning 90% of the parts needed, can only be obtained in the UK, or bought through Internet. This choice was made due to my deep interest ( or is it just plain love ? ) for the UK locomotive Classes 59 & 66, built by GM-EMD

The layout will be made to exhibition standard, and hopefully gets exhibited too, when it's finally finished.

The layout will be operated by Lenz SET100 DCC digital controlling equipment. All trains will be equiped with a ESU Loksound DCC sound decoder ( with prototypical sounds ) and improved with prototypical lighting ( including markers, day & night running and Golden White / Sunny White prototypical coloured LEDs ), a smoke unit, a remote controlled Romford screwlink coupling, appropriate detailing and weathering.

Enjoy your look around. The site should be easy to read and navigate.

Please, do come back more often, and follow the layout's progress.

Kind Regards, Michel van den Hof
